Intricate Patterned Pieces

I'm always interested when someone smarter than I am finds a new way to use a common material.  Michael Alm of Alm Fab almfab.com is the first person I have seen who started exploiting the end grain of birch ply, and it can make some gorgeous patterns.  He has really taken this process to some next level stuff, and as Picasso is rumored to have said - "Good artists imitate, great artists steal."  I watched a lot of his videos and have had fun making sawdust out of plywood.  The glue used to hold the plies together is pretty rough on tools, but the result is usually worth it.
